Shirley Quaid
Master Signature Artists of Texas
Much of Shirley's work is informed by her lifelong interest in the Old West and her early years on her grandfather's Oklahoma farm. Biographies of pioneers, explorers, outlaws and other characters in the 1800's were her favorite books and black and white cowboy movies were standard Saturday fare as she grew up in the Choctaw/Mcloud area in Oklahoma. She began to paint in 1999 and has not looked back.
Shirley’s life experiences in Texas and Oklahoma helps her as she creates her western themed pieces from a unique perspective often telling a story while highlighting the emotional aspect of the scene. Oils have become her passion as she scrapes layers of paint to reveal subtleties of underlying layers in her representational work.
Her roots run deep from her maternal grandmother's journey in a covered wagon to Oklahoma Territory, and to the 7th great grandfather, a French Huguenot nobleman who arrived in Philadelphia, PA in 1663 and became a wealthy pirate!
Shirley's art is in collections internationally and throughout the United States.
