Meet Texas Artist Gaye Sekula

Painting is a deeply spiritual thing for me. Much like meditation, it is being present and keenly aware, but at the same time, letting go and trusting in all you have learned thus far. Many artists have tried to describe  it with phrases such as -"following the muse", "feeling the hand of God on yours", or "being in the flow".  Regardless, it is really something undefinable, yet undeniable. I feel the following quote sums it up quite well: “We lose ourselves in the things we love. We find ourselves there, too.”

Artist's Bio:
Gaye Sekula’s paintings are reflective of the artist herself;  passionate, spontaneous and expressive.  She finds great inspiration in trying to capture the wonder of the fleeting moment and finds the most joy in painting “alla prima”. It is her belief that emotion and liveliness are best captured in spontaneous simplicity.

She has studied under such masters as Carolyn Anderson, William Schneider, Henry Yan, Jeff Watts and Zhaoming Wu. She has also been greatly influenced by Richard Schmid, Tibor Nagy, and Nicolai Fechin.

Gaye was born in San Antonio, Texas. After several years living abroad, she and her husband returned to settle in San Antonio.
